I had it replaced under warranty and Pivot was great to deal with. Also if anyone has comments on the durability of this carbon frame and things to look out for that would also be helpful.Ĭlick to expand. The 2018 should be the newer frame, that is not prone to cracking around the main pivot like my original one. I also have a 2.35 XR4 up front and a XR2 in the back and do like that extra width up front.Īny advice here on what I may be giving up going with this generation Spark vs waiting a bit until something even more modern comes around would be greatly appreciated. This maybe what has cost me some broken wheels, headsets and bottom brackets over the years, but I do also enjoy climbing almost as much as the downhills, so feel like a XC (or low country) setup is probably where I want to be - but have never really ridden another bike on any meaningful rides besides the Epic. I ride my Epic really hard and while it is not "slack" and has a longish stem and short race face flat handlebar, I still feel like I can fly through pretty rough roots and rocks on the way down within reason. I wonder if I should snatch up what seems like a decent deal locally, or put off the modern bike purchase a little longer as 2014 even seems a little dated when I am doing research as everything is getting "slacker" and more trail oriented. It is also a Large, whereas my Epic is a medium, I am 5'10" so I am right on the border size wise. It's apparently not a factory build and was outfitted for a sponsored pro, with DT Swiss suspension, guide brakes, and XX 2x drivetrain. In the meantime, a local Scott Spark RC (2014) has popped up for sale. To partially scratch that itch, I did just fit an XT M8000 1x11 with an oval oneup 34T on my Epic a couple weeks ago, and am digging it so far. However I can't help but notice how much bikes have changed while I was away, and have been itching to try something a little more modern to see what all the fuss is about. I have a 2005 Epic (26er) that I bought new and have always loved. I am just getting back into the game after about an 8 year hiatus.
